Principles of Management

This course provides essential concepts and practical focus across a number of management functions. It gives depth and breadth to contemporary trends in management and organisations. It presents sound foundation for understanding key issues relevant to either small businesses, entrepreneurial ventures, public listed companies, or not-for-profit organisation be it the frontliners or the chief executive officers. The course explores empirical cases as well as experiences on how to make good decisions; cast influence on the decisions, strategies and policies of your superiors; motivate and lead others; manage change and innovation; and resolve conflicts; to list a few. This course provides the opportunities for managers to build and shape organizations to be more resilient, efficient and effective to respond to the dynamic business environment today.
Management Communication

This course is created with the aim of promoting effective communication among individuals, teams and organisations. Effective communication is essential for managers at all levels today especially when the workforce is constantly bombarded with information from all sources be it formal or informal. This course covers the elements of communication and an analytical framework to solve communication challenges faced by business leaders. In a borderless environment where people of various background converge, it is vital that common understanding among staff is achieved. The acknowledgment and promotion of proper management of communication is key to achieving optimum organisational results.
Financial Accounting

There is a need for managers in every functional area to understand the basic principles of both accounting and finance in order to make informed business decisions. To achieve this, Financial Accounting is designed to provide a complete understanding of the preparation and analysis of financial statements. The course comprises of the introduction to financial statement, the accounting cycle, cash, marketable securities and receivables relevant to any organization. The course will benefit finance managers as well as all functional managers so that everyone speaks similar language in understanding business performance, use and analyze company financial reports to make sound business decisions.

This is especially crucial that managers have the ablity to independantly and confidently identify and solve problem in a systematic method. This course introduces the key aspects in MBA research. It provides guidance and information to postgraduate research design, methodologies, challenges, organisation, etc using available data driven and management tools. The course provides training in presenting and proposing the objective, reasoning and methodology of a research topic professionally and effectively to stakeholders At the end of the course, managers are able to launch and supervise a research project to identify and solve business issues in a sound and realistic manner.

Operations Management

The course will introduce you one of the important fields of study known as “operations management”. This course examines the theories, methods and practice of manufacturing and service sectors. Beginning with operations strategy, the course will discuss the design, operation, maintenance and improvement of operations systems. For the objective of values creation for customers, the course analyses the transformation process from inputs to outputs. Student will know and understand the planning, control and coordination of operations process in order to match the supply and demand more effectively and efficiently. The main contents of the course include: introduction to operations management, operations process design and selection of technology, product and service development, operations capability, operations facilities, supply chain management, inventory management, planning and control, Just-in-time and lean production, and other advanced operations management systems, etc. The success of any organisation depends on its ability to manage its operations efficiently.
Marketing

This course is designed with the aim to provide students with an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills of strategic marketing management. The strategic marketing management process includes understanding the relationship between customers and the market, marketing mix strategies and integrated marketing communications planning, branding, corporate social responsibility and marketing implementation and control. The purpose of this course is to understand and apply analytical tools in corporate finance for making corporate investment and financial decisions including risk analysis. This course comprises of theories of corporate finance including among others time value of money, risk and return analysis, applications of asset picing models, capital budgeting & cost of capital analyses, corporate capital structure and financing decisions, dividend policy, corporate acquisitions & restructuring and international corporate finance issues.
Strategic Management

This course is designed to address the creation of competitive advantage in organizations that span national boundaries. It aims to expose students to the complexities and challenges related to global strategic management activities. Theoretical concepts and management strategies as well as the impact of environmental factors on global strategic management activities will be addressed. Contextual differences and similarities between countries and markets in the global arena will be taken into consideration while exploring the impact of strategic formulation and implementation on global strategic positioning.
Research Project

Much of independent research is expected of a manager to be abreast of the latest development in knowledge as well as practices in the business world. In this course, managers embarks on an independent research effort under the supervision of a supervisor. The research journey exposes students to the process of identifying problems in business and design a research strategy based on a sound framework to identify and quantify the problems at hand using reliable, valid and data driven methods. Selected Topics on China
PG0101
The 1st part is an introduction to China as a diverse and dynamic site of political and cultural entities and historical developments using as our selected topics and issues that link various periods in China’s past with the present.
The 2nd part provides an overview of the basic institutions of legal system that is operating in Mainland China, and the fundamental concepts in the core areas of Chinese Law.
The 3rd part of lecture will mainly center on the introduction of both Ancient Chinese Architecture and Modern Chinese Architecture in order to help students establish a general understanding of the ideology, system, types, tradition, and culture of dwellings, and cities in China.
The 4th part offers a general introduction to industrial organization and antitrust practice in modern China.
The 5th part provides an overview of Chinese Politics which examines the institutional features of the Chinese political system, the developmental success and the key challenges facing the CCP leadership, as well as significant change of public policy happened this year in education, demography, and private entrepreneurship.
