The MBA Centre at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) successfully organized a public talk on 6 April 2025, titled “The Outlook for Investment in Malaysia – How to Embrace It?”, featuring YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.
Held in Room G01, A2 Building at XMUM’s campus, the event attracted a full house of students, staff, alumni, and guests from various sectors, all keen to gain insights into Malaysia’s economic outlook and investment landscape. The talk was part of the XMUM MBA Centre’s ongoing commitment to promoting thought leadership and bridging academic learning with real-world relevance.

Engaging and Thought-Provoking Session
The session began with opening remarks and a warm welcome by Prof. Wang Peiming, Director of the MBA Centre, followed by an insightful presentation by YB Liew Chin Tong. Drawing on his extensive experience in public service and policymaking, YB Liew explored Malaysia’s evolving economic landscape, the dynamics of foreign direct investment, key strategic industries, and the critical role of young professionals in building a sustainable future.
His talk underscored the importance of inclusive growth, institutional reforms, and future-oriented economic planning to ensure that Malaysia remains competitive and resilient in an increasingly uncertain global market.

Interactive Q&A and “Fan Meeting” Moment
A key highlight of the event was the interactive Q&A session, during which participants posed thought-provoking questions on a wide range of topics, including regional development and ESG investments. YB Liew responded with insightful commentary and real-world examples, fostering meaningful dialogue between the government and the next generation of business leaders.
Adding a light-hearted touch to the conclusion, the event wrapped up with an impromptu “fan meeting” session — as many attendees lined up to take photos and personally engage with the Deputy Minister. The enthusiastic turnout and lively atmosphere even prompted a humorous suggestion from participants: “Next time, we should include a book signing, too!”

Introducing “Second Takeoff”
Attendees were also introduced to YB Liew’s latest publication, Second Takeoff: Strategies for Malaysia’s Economic Resurgence, a compelling book offering strategic insights into Malaysia’s future in the global economy. The book’s themes closely aligned with the event’s focus, sparking strong interest among participants to explore it further.

The XMUM MBA Centre expressed sincere gratitude to YB Liew for generosity sharing his time and insights, and to all attendees for their active participation. The Centre reaffirmed its commitment to organising more impactful events that bridge the gap between academia, policy, and industry.
